Join us in caring for our beautiful backyard.
About Us
Blackwood & Barry’s Reef Landcare Group has been around for over 20 years. We are a group of local residents who are passionate about actively caring for the land, waterways, plants, animals, fungi…all the natural beauty of a very special part of Victoria. We undertake weed management, revegetation, citizen science activities and have fun along the way!
Our general meetings are held bimonthly – get in touch to find out where.
Because much of our area of interest is in public (state/local government) ownership, an important role for us is coordinating with the public land managers regarding weed management. Our members report weed outbreaks before they become too large and costly to manage. And local residents can also do their part in stopping weeds escaping into the surrounding forest.
As a member of Landcare Victoria Inc and also Moorabool Landcare Network, Blackwood & Barry’s Reef Landcare Group taps into the resources of the wider Landcare “family”. We are incorporated and an endorsed charity.
A New Chapter for Our Local Forests
October 2026 marks an important change for our local landscape, with parts of Wombat State Forest transitioning into the new Blackwood Regional Park and an expanded Wombat-Lerderderg National Park.
For Blackwood & Barry’s Reef Landcare Group, these forests are more than a beautiful backdrop – they’re part of the environment we work to protect. The new park boundaries bring fresh opportunities for conservation, community involvement and caring for the remarkable biodiversity on our doorstep.
Caring for our patch
We have regular weed busting working bees at sites around Blackwood town and the district as well as maintaining native beds in the town center.
Education & citizen science
Learn about our local environment through sampling the waterways, photography and field surveys, as well as guest speakers with lots of expertise.
Environmental arts
Our environmental arts program is a fun and creative way to experience our local environment, especially for the children in our community.
